5 Tips for Healthy Living

As you try to live a healthier lifestyle, there are many tips that you should keep in mind. Here is a look at the top 5 tips for living healthy.

Tip #1: Avoid Artificial Trans Fats

Also referred to as trans fatty acids, artificial trans fats are those that are created in an industrial process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils in order to make them more solid. Partially hydrogenated oils are the most common source of artificial trans fats.

Tip #2: Eat More Eggs

Contrary to what was once a popular belief, eggs actually are good for you. They do not raise blood pressure in most people, but they are a good low-calorie source of protein. Most of the nutrients are found in the yolk, so be sure to include eggs in your regular diet.

Tip #3: Avoid Drinking Your Calories

Sugary drinks are filled with calories, but they do not satisfy your hunger. In fact, your brain tends to not recognize the calories that you consume in liquid form, which causes you to consume more calories than you typically would. Avoid sugary drinks at all cost. Keep in mind that fruit juices are also high in sugar. It is far better to eat the fruit than to drink the fruit in its juiced form.

Tip #4: “Low Fat” Isn’t Necessarily Good

Many dieters flock to “low fat” options because they believe it is a healthier option. In reality, “low fat” usually also means “high in sugar” because sugar is added to compensate for the loss in taste that is created when removing fat. Naturally low-fat foods such as fruit are still a good option, but anything that is processed to be “low in fat” is not likely to be a good choice.

Tip #5: Read Labels

Before you purchase a food, be sure to read the label in order to truly see what you are consuming. It is important to remember that this means going beyond the marketing and advertisements. Just because a wrapper claims to be “whole grain,” for example, it does not necessarily mean it is good for you. Read all of the ingredients to ensure you are not taking in too much sugar or too many carbs.
