Lose Weight by Eating More

Okay, my title might be slightly misleading. Eating an extra bag of Cheetos definitely will not help you lose five pounds. However, I really can’t stress how important it is to properly fuel your body! It’s the key to sustainable weight loss because guess what? You shouldn’t be starving yourself.

As a brand-new mom, it’s hard for me to make sure I eat in the morning after being up all night and trying to get a morning workout in. Gotta lose that baby weight, right? But when I find myself getting dizzy at 1 pm and realize that I still haven’t had breakfast, I’m only getting farther away from my goals. Here’s why.

Sometimes, it helps to think about your metabolism like a machine. Imagine you’re looking to drive across the country. If your car doesn’t have any fuel in it, it’s not going to be much help on a road trip. So you decide to put some fuel in the tank, but then fill up your gas-powered car with diesel. Obviously, that method isn’t going to get you very far without causing some serious issues.blue car on the road

Similarly, if you try to get your body moving for the day, you’ve got to fuel it right! Skipping breakfast means depriving your metabolism of the energy it needs to power your day. If you do have breakfast but fuel up on carb- and sugar-loaded things like pancakes or oatmeal, you’re eating things that will eventually crash your machine, or your metabolism.omelet on a plate

One of the best things you can do to lose fat is start with a protein-based breakfast and continue to fuel yourself with small, nutritious meals throughout the day. Even if you have a busy schedule, try squeezing in protein servings 4-5 times a day to keep yourself from relying on snacky junk food or not eating at all.steak on a plate

Essentially, eating this way prevents your body from going into starvation mode and holding on to all the fat it can for fuel. Eat more often and give your cells permission to release their fat stores instead of relying on carbs for energy. It really works!
