So, how come at one time you used to be able to eat a hot fudge sundae every night and you didn’t gain a pound?  Oh right…that was when you were 20 years old.  Well that was then and this is now!

As we age our mitochondria known as “the powerhouse of the cell” aren’t quite so effective at performing its’ job.  It ages as you age. What are Mitochondria?  Mitochondria are the little factories in our cells that take the foods we eat and the oxygen we breathe and convert them into energy.  That energy is called adenosine triphosphate, or ATP.  ATP is used to support every function in our body.  It is what makes our body move and regenerate and breath and heal and ….

Each and every cell in our body contains thousands of mitochondria.  We have more than 100,000 trillion mitochondria in and each one contains 17,000 miniature assembly lines for making ATP.  This is where metabolism takes place.  When the mitochondria are damaged you suffer all the symptoms of low energy, pain, weight gain, fatigue, memory loss and rapid aging – and a long list of other undesirable events.

The key to more energy lies in providing your mitochondria the right environment to thrive.  When you do, you can boost your metabollism and your overall health.  The Mitochondrial Renewal Kit (our Featured Product for September) contains three different ingredients that facilitate an environment for mitochondria to thrive.

Nitric Oxide (NO) – takes a load off of your heart and blood vessels by relaxing the blood vessels (known as vasodialation), thereby easing the strain placed on the heart.  NO directly activates the “master regulator” of mitochondrial biogenesis and function and metabolic fitness known as PGC-1a

Resveratin – Found in red wine, resveratrol is one of the most promising anti-aging nutraceuticals to date.  Dr. Oz talked about resveratrol having anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  Resveratrol is labeled as an “exercise mimetic”.  How would you like to work out for 1/2 hour, and get the caloric burn of an hour work out?  That’s what resveratrin – which contains resveratrol, quercitin and pterostilbene to make the most bio-available form of resveratrol can help you accomplish. It activates a molecular “switch” that governs the activation of metabolic fitness (PCG-1a).  The other way PGC-1a is activated is by exercise.  That’s why we call Resveratin an “exercise mimetic”.

Lipoic Acid (ALA) is considered “king” among antioxidants.  ALA stimulates another molecular switch in the body known as AMPK which also activates the “master regulator” of mitochondrial biogenesis (PGC-1a). This switch enhances appetite control and weight management.

Try our featured product this month to turn on your powerhouse and increase your metabolic edge, but be sure to check with the Doctor if you have high blood pressure or diabetes, or if you’re allergic to corn products or fruit.

Would like to get more information on Mitochondria and if it would be beneficial to someone who has not thyroid.

Mitochondria are the power/fuel sources in your cells. As we age, the mitochondria diminish because of environmental factors. The Mito-Kit is not going to be tied directly to your thyroid. You should continue any prescription medication recommended by your doctor for thyroid supplementation. Mito-Kits will supplement and help replenish mitochondria over all and can be used in conjuction with your thyroid medication. Talk to your doctor if you have further concerns. We have pamphlets in the office that talk more about the benefits of the Mito-Kit.
